A traditional festival celebrated across India, Raksha Bandhan marks the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Meaning “the tie” or “knot of protection” in Sanskrit, Rakhi as it is fondly called, is a way to express your love and commitment towards your siblings.

As sacred as this bond may be, Raksha Bandhan is probably the only day, the siblings go a day without pulling each others leg.

From playing pranks to fighting for TV remotes; Arguing over who gets the last bite of their favourite sweet to snooping around through each others stuff, so they can have some leverage over each other. Today, let’s look at some of the most popular brother-sister duo on TV who have acted out what reality is for brothers and sisters in the world.

From fighting imaginary monsters to fighting acne and everything in between, these brother-sister duos have shown the world why having a sibling is amazing.

DeeDee & Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory

One of the most epic representation of a brother-sister relationship, Dexter’s Laboratory showed how the bond between siblings can be. Hiding things from parents (ofcourse not a secret underground laboratory) and the other sibling trying to snoop around and doing things just to annoy the other. Blackmailing to get things done and not reveal any information to their parents were all part of this relationship.

Phil & Lil from Rugrats

This representation showed the other spectrum of the sibling relationships. While many quarrel and pull each others legs, these twins did everything together. Be it eating bugs or finding insects, they were inseparable. They even wore the same designed clothes and whenever they got into an argument, they always referred to each other by their full first names, “Phillip” and “Lillian”, something we can relate to ourselves.

Ross and Monica from FRIENDS

How can one not relate to these two? A typical representation of siblings as they grow older. The geeky brother and the clean freak sister maintained their personal lives with steady jobs, while still living close to each other and even hung out together all the time. No matter how complicated things got or how much they fought, these two taught us how and why family should stick up for each other

Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Pritchett from Modern Family

Probably one of the best family TV shows that represent how a modern day family works. Claire and Mitchell showed how even after marriage, brothers and sister stay close while still fighting over silly things. While Claire was more independent and made sure everyone knew who the boss is, Mitchell was soft spoken and always in the background. In times of need, Mitchell always went to Claire for help, showing how sisters play an important role in a brothers life.

We wish all the brother-sister duos a Happy Raksha Bandhan and hope that the love only grows for each other.
