Three Ways to Celebrate National French Fry Day
Known by many names — French Fries in America, Chips in England or Finger Chips, these crispy and salty delights made with potatoes are a hit wherever served. Not just as a side, French fries taste delicious when put on top of burger patty as a filling, covered with cheese, jalapenos, chillies or just plain salted. There are many different shapes in which you can see the fries being served around the world as wedges, crinkle-cut fries or grated into small juliennes. Whatever the form or shape, fries remain favourite food for parties, eating out and fast food. No wonder then that a day is dedicated to honouring this treasured food!
While the world is busy celebrating National French Fry Day, we are listing our top favourite ways in which you can prepare them at home.
Classic Potato Style
Chop up potatoes into thin fingers. Dust them with cornflour to make a crust and dip them in hot oil. Fry till golden brown, take them out on a napkin to drain excess oil. Dust them with salt and serve hot.
Cheesy Chilli Fries
This is a fiery version of the Classic Potato Style fries. Dust the fries with chilli flakes before marinating them in cornflour and fry until crisp. Once drained, top with grated cheese (of your choice) and put them in the oven for 10 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining chilli flakes and enjoy the combination of gooey cheese spicy chilli.
Veggie Fries
This is one of our favourite recipes. Just take a vegetable of your choice, eggplant, beetroot or sweet potatoes work best. Cut them into wedges and prepare using any of the cooking methods above.
