Hailing from Japan, these sour but tasty wheat noodles should definitely be your next kitchen favorite. These noodles comes with an added benefit of being low on calorie and high on fiber. Substitute them for your regular pasta and you will not regret this decision. Udon noodles are made of whole wheat and are a tad bit expensive from the regular noodles which are made out of regular flour.

The texture is soft and are slightly thicker than the regular noodles for a simple reason that anything made out of wheat needs a substantial resistance and a thicker area which generally suffices. The best thing about these Udon noodles are that they can be clubbed with a curry, broth, pasta sauce, Chinese sauces and much more and they will not disappoint you in terms of flavour and taste. Udon noodles are traditionally served in broth-based soup or a stir-fry and both dishes are potentially healthy.

Cooking this delight shouldn’t be a difficult task all you have to do is chop onion, garlic, ginger and other herbs as flavorings instead of seasoning mixes with these noodles. If you use soy sauce, stick to low-sodium versions. Limit cooking oil to a tablespoon for stir-fry, and add toppings such as tofu and vegetables. And you are set.
