Announcing Auto-Update for Apps

Developers frequently release upgraded versions of their apps with bug fixes, new features, and enhanced user experience. However, customers are not able to immediately benefit from these enhancements as they have to manually look for these updates in the Installed apps list and then update the apps. And, the possible outcome of missing updates may cause security risks, uninstallation of apps, and over-all bad user experiences.

Today, we are glad to announce that developers can now choose to automatically update their apps for all customers through the new auto-update feature.

Enabling Auto-Update

To opt-in for this feature, developers can select the checkbox when they submit a new version of the app on the Developer portal.

Note: For changes in the installations parameters or OAuth configurations, we recommend developers not to opt for auto-update.

Rolling Out Updates

Once the new version of the app is submitted, it goes through our standard app review process to weed out bugs and security concerns. If you have opted for auto-update, the review ensures that auto-update is feasible for the new version. Once the app is approved, the new version is automatically deployed to all customer instances within six hours.
