Friday I’m In Love: SciFi Book Covers

So weird, so weird, so weird.

One of the perks of unemployment is that whenever I feel like going to Goodwill, I can go to Goodwill. Now that I think about it, this would’ve applied most of the time when I was employed as well—but now it feels more appropriate. Just a 42-year-old dude without a job, hanging out in the book section of a suburban thrift store. Makes sense. So much sense.

Usually, I look for Ross Thomas books and 90s-era Nike ACG fleece jackets (I’ve found some amazing fleece vests for Luke, but none for me… yet). Sometimes I venture into sporting goods. If I’m feeling crazy, I poke my nose into all the framed artwork, pretending that I’m about to find an undiscovered Picasso when I know that the racks are always just full of bad office-building florals and cityscapes—all with exquisite custom framing. Who pays to custom-frame a bad floral print? That stuff is expensive…

Lately, my favorite thing is to look at the covers of the sci-fi books. There’s no way for me to adequately describe these covers, so I’ve taken some photos. I hope you love them as much as I do. Someday, I’d like to write a book worthy of this kind of art. Some. Day.

Every Friday I share something I love. Usually, it’s a new infatuation. Occasionally, it’s something else. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the theme song, Phoebe Bridgers!
