Most people have no idea what I do at work, Bernd says. Some quick fire questions to change that:

What do people normally think an actuary does?

Most people have never heard of this profession. When I start to explain that I am working as a mathematician in an insurance company they think of insurance salesman.

What is an actuary then actually doing?

An actuary is dealing with risk and uncertainty. Next to calculating premiums and reserves for insurance policies, we are also using machine learning algorithms to analyze and manage risk.

Next to maths and risk management, what topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?

Do you know the Unofficial Football World Championship (UFWC)? It answers the question of who would be the Football World Champion if the title was not determined in FIFA tournaments but instead every international match against the current title holder was a title match potentially resulting in a new champion.

You are no professional football player. Any other hidden talents?
