Why we conducted the analysis

To give strategic decision-makers a broad view of the competitive landscape in order to benchmark their internal goals and initiatives.

Slides from the Friedland Enterprises market analysis presentation.

Key highlights

  • 323 companies evaluated
  • Most common company size: 1,001–5,000 employees (108 companies)
  • 11% of companies (33) had eCommerce functionality
  • 74% of companies (238) had a social media presence
  • Many companies are missing best practices when it comes to desktop, mobile, and eCommerce
  • Sector focus: Building materials (including windows, doors, siding, plumbing, and related manufacturers and distributors)

Missing best practices

Despite a large number (and percentage) of companies having an online presence, there were many areas where implementing simple best practices could dramatically improve the customer experience.

We’ve highlighted a few basic observations that, if corrected, could produce impressive benefits.

  • Slow page load times
  • Sites are not mobile-friendly
  • Missing live chat and other visitor engagement tools
  • Lacking basic and critical content to help the customer
  • Social media profiles that hadn’t been maintained in months or years
  • Challenging user experience to locate product information

It’s clear — there’s a big opportunity

With all things considered, most companies stand to benefit from offering their customers a better online experience. Making simple changes and implementing best practices can result in 10X improvement over the status quo.
