My Keto Journey: How Cronometer Changed My Life
I’ve never really shared my stats from my Cronometer App. This is because I was never really confident enough to show the world my progress. It felt a bit vulnerable to expose my journey and numbers, especially in a world where everyone seems to present their best selves. But as I’ve grown more accustomed to my path, I’ve begun to realize the importance of sharing not just the triumphs but also the challenges faced along the way.
Since I started keto, and started using the Cronometer tracking app, I have discovered a whole new world of success when it comes to my health, and yes, weight loss. It has been a rewarding experience that has transformed my approach to food and nutrition. The app has been instrumental in helping me keep track of my daily intake, ensuring that I stay within my macros and understand more about what I am putting into my body. Seeing my stats in real-time has motivated me to make healthier choices and stay committed to my goals.
The data from Cronometer illustrates my progress vividly, capturing not just my weight loss but also the improvements in my energy levels, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing. As I reflect on this journey, I recognize that it’s not solely about the numbers; it’s also about fostering a healthier relationship with food and embracing the lifestyle changes that come with it. Acknowledging my progress, even the small victories, is a significant step in building my confidence and encouraging others who might be on a similar path. Sharing these stats now seems like a beautiful way to document my journey and hopefully inspire others to embark on their own health transformations.
I have tried various diets and tracking apps, including Healthi, with varying degrees of success. One app that I used quite a lot is the Healthi App:
I experienced difficulty sticking to various diet plans offered by a program, including Carb Conscious, Conquer Cravings, and Calorie Command, which featured too many options, notably a points metric. Although a keto option was available, I wasn’t interested at that time. After exploring the Healthi app for years, I had mixed success and often felt lost in my dietary journey.
In February 2024, I realized I had gained 17 pounds and hadn’t seen a doctor in six years, believing I was healthy. Tired and unable to lose weight, I had blood work done that revealed high cholesterol, blood sugar, and elevated thyroid antibodies, leading to a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s. In search of dietary solutions, keto frequently emerged as a recommendation.
After years of opposing the keto diet, I recognized that my high-carb and sugar intake was harming my health, prompting a desire for change, though I was concerned a strict keto plan would be unsustainable for me.
I started with the Atkins diet. It seemed simple enough. I chose the Atkins 40 plan, because I thought it would be easier to stick with.
I found the initial app lacking in its food database and rigid, so I switched to Cronometer for better macro tailoring and a more extensive food database.
The customizable keto plan helped me find the right fit, and I am currently enjoying the relaxed keto plan.
I still use some Atkins guidelines for my macros (I try to stay within a certain range, which gives me more flexibility:
Protein
75–135
Fat
81–140
Carbs
48–52
Some days I eat more, some days less, but it all balances out.
This brings me to the reason for this post; my weight loss journey over the last eight months:
As you can see in this chart, my weight loss has been steadily dropping. I have had no long plateaus and no unsteady fluctuations:
This chart starts in March of 2024. I started keto in February of 2024, but didn’t start using Cronometer until March. My starting weight was 227 lbs. I am now a 211.8 lbs; a loss of 15.2 pounds, and counting.
I am continuously surprise at my consistent weight loss while following the keto diet, and my continued progress is motivating me to continue. I now view the keto diet not as a temporary measure but as a lifelong commitment to health and wellness, with weight loss as a positive side effect. Despite feeling better each day, I acknowledge the ongoing challenges related to my thyroid issues.
There are other keto tracking apps out there. What works for me may not work for you. But you can try Cronometer for free by clicking here.
I use their gold membership. It is really worth the small cost to have updated benefits such as a recipe importer, nutrition scores, custom charts and so much more.
Using Cronometer and staying with the keto diet has truly changed my life for the better.
