From dev to devs: A Weekly Subjective Roundup of Top Tech News

Welcome to my weekly roundup of the top tech news that caught my attention this week! As developers and IT enthusiasts, we know how important it is to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the industry. So, with no more delay, let’s dive into this week’s top stories.

Silicon Valley Bank’s Collapse and the USDC

Silicon Valley Bank Logo

The second biggest collapse in US history happened this week, and it was the Silicon Valley Bank that went under. This bank targeted start-ups, so many companies that kept their money in this bank were damaged. One of these companies is Circle, which lost a staggering $3.3 billion in cash. As a result, the stablecoin USDC has broken the dollar peg, and its price is currently $0.94. For those who believe in USDC and are not afraid of the history of the UST token, it’s a good opportunity to risk and earn some income.

OpenAI’s New Model ChatGPT 4

During the event AI in Focus — Digital Kickoff, Andreas Brown, CTO of German MS, announced that OpenAI would release a new version of their GPT model, ChatGPT 4, next week. The new version will be multimodal and will be able to generate not only text but also video, audio, and picture content. Just imagine what we could do with this new technology if it works as well as their chat!

OpenAI has not yet released any specific details about the model’s performance, but it is expected to be on an entirely new level.

Discord Voice Chat Is Finally Available On PS5

Discord integrated into PS5 network

Breaking news for all gaming enthusiasts out there! Discord is now officially integrated into the PS5 console, allowing players to communicate more seamlessly with their PC buddies. This development has been long-awaited since Sony officially partnered with Discord in May 2021.

With the new integration, PS5 players can now make Discord calls while playing games or transfer calls across devices with the installed Discord app. This will be a game-changer for cross-platform gaming, as players can now communicate more effectively with their friends, regardless of the platform they are using.

Elon Musk’s Critique of Twitter

Elon Musk wants to rewrite Twitter

Twitter broke again this week, and Elon Musk was unhappy. Users found that various parts of the site — including images, links, and TweetDeck — had broken. Error messages indicated that something had happened to the API. The outage quickly hit internal Twitter systems and other important services and showed up as broken images and links for users.

Elon has argued that the code running the site itself is at fault and must be completely rewritten. “A small API change had massive ramifications. The code stack is extremely brittle for no good reason. Will ultimately need a complete rewrite,” he wrote on Twitter.

But perhaps Twitter should stop firing its developers to keep the platform’s stability instead of rewriting. What do you think?

Apple Music Classic

Apple Music Classic in App Store

On March 28th, Apple will release a new app, Apple Music Classic. It will be available to all Apple Music users, providing access to 5 million classical music tracks with 24 bits and 192kHz quality. This is excellent news for classical music lovers who are looking for high-quality recordings of their favorite pieces.

Amazon Go Convenience Stores are Closing

Amazon is permanently closing eight of its 29 Amazon Go convenience stores that allow customers to shop without any kind of checkout process. These super-modern markets work without staff, and clients could come, take some food, and leave the shop immediately. The system would track what the client took and charge them automatically. However, the sales growth of the physical stores unit has noticeably lagged behind the company’s overall retail business. Physical stores, which include Whole Foods and Fresh outlets, reported lower sales in 2021 than in 2018. Amazon is trimming its physical retail footprint after coming off its slowest growth rate for any quarter since 2001.
