How to Land Your First Remote Job Abroad

I currently work for a US-based startup, even though I’ve never set foot in the US. Here’s how you can do it too.

Remote work is the great equalizer. Where you were born no longer has any bearing on what job opportunities are available to you.

It doesn’t matter where you are from. More and more companies are hiring remote employees and contractors abroad.

And contrary to popular belief, the driving factor is not just about cost savings.

Remote companies often pay significantly better than the local market rate and are willing to hire people abroad because talent shortages mean they need access to a wider talent pool.

It’s that simple.

I currently work for a US-based startup with colleagues all over the world.

I didn’t set out to work for a firm that didn’t have a branch in the UK where I live, it just happened that way.

My client didn’t hire me because I was ‘cheap’. My rates fell squarely within their advertised budget range. I didn’t undercut anybody to win this contract.

My client hired me because they believed I was the right fit for the company, even though I was in a different time zone.
