Everything is Possible: Guitars with Hidden Swords Inside

Guitar Wolf and his guitar sword

If you’ve ever watched the post-apocalyptic, zombie, rock n’ roll cult classic ‘Wild Zero,’ you know that at some point, Guitar Wolf’s guitar suddenly gets even cooler. While he’s spent the entire movie with a gorgeous, cherry red guitar slung stylishly over one shoulder, suddenly he reveals that it’s also a samurai sword. The fretboard is the handle, and when he uses it, it’s hilariously epic and heroic…(spoiler alert)….he draws it and uses it to stab into the underneath side of a massive alien spaceship and he cuts THE ENTIRE THING RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE with the power of rock n’ roll…and a killer sword.

Seeing this made me wonder if there are any real world examples of such a thing. Let’s find out!

Hidden Swords

There are a number of examples of other objects that hide swords. The most common is a walking stick that conceals one inside. These are aptly named swordsticks or cane-swords. They were most popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries amongst aristocrats and travelers. This type of weapon/walking stick was also used in Japan. Known as shikomizue, they were used for the same reason as in Europe — discrete self defense.
