From the Editor’s Desk: The Publishing World Today

My name is A.E. Williams, and I’m a Book Editor.

When I started my career in the editorial world, I didn’t receive any special training or internship at a Big 5 publisher. In fact, I came from the fast-food industry, having worked for over fifteen years as a restaurant manager at the largest chicken restaurant chain in the US. Fortunately for me, I was a writer during those years and eventually went back to school and earned a BFA in Creative Writing.

Just before I graduated (#1 in my class), I started learning about becoming a Book Editor from one of my professors.

I became an editor right out of college. I didn’t come with a PhD or a membership with the EFA or ACES, but I learned from other editors, took in my resources, and learned from the publishing professionals. Now look where I am today. I’m working with publishing houses and helping clients get their books out there for the world to see. And I’ve seen a lot of things in the industry and met with a lot of editorial professionals.

We all have our vision of how things are and how they should be. That’s why I wanted to start From the Editor’s Desk.
