Restaurants love loyal customers, and we do too. We love seeing diners use the Reserve app over and over for every kind of meal — from brunch with friends to a special anniversary dinner. Previously, there hasn’t been a good way for you to express your loyalty in the app. So today we’re introducing new levels on Reserve so it’s easy for you to show your loyalty and gain status.

Start as Gold, work your way to Platinum and keep booking to earn elusive Reserve Black status, unlocking special experiences or rewards.

Status will roll over from month to month, but you’ll need to keep booking to maintain it over time.

Your dining frequency and the number of reservations you complete on Reserve are the biggest contributors to your status level.

However, other factors, such as whether you consistently miss or arrive late to your reservations, may also be included.

We’re displaying information about missed reservations (known as “no-shows”) as well as the number of reservations you’ve made and kept, so your stats reflect the full spectrum of loyalty — not just that you dine frequently. Across the industry, managing no-shows and mitigating the impact those have are some of the most difficult issues for restaurants.

No-shows are a widespread problem — the Wall Street Journal reported that in large cities like New York, 20% of reservations are no-shows. — Tweet this

With the cost of rent, food, staff salaries and more, for many restaurants a couple of tables is the difference between making a profit or not. When those tables don’t show up, it might take an otherwise successful night and put the restaurant in the red.

Being loyal doesn’t just mean dining often, it also means showing up when you say you will or canceling your reservation if you know you won’t be able to make it, so the restaurant can potentially seat other diners. It’s easy to forget the impact missing a reservation has on your favorite restaurant, and we hope our new feature will help remind you to let a restaurant know if your plans change. To make it easy for you to let a restaurant know if you’ll be late or won’t be able to make it, you can always message your Reserve concierge or reply to the reminder email you receive a few hours before your reservation starts.

Intrigued? To get started download the Reserve app and place a request. Starting today the new loyalty levels will begin rolling out on Android and iOS, so dine often, let us know if your plans change and keep an eye on your profile!

Happy dining,
