The Remarkable

A Poem

Sometimes the kindling inside of you
is so damp, rotten, or sparse,
It will be impossible to start a fire
even if there is a spark.
But if you are patient with yourself,
it will feel remarkable when you find,
That even in the cold, dark spaces,
your inspiration can survive.

Sometimes the true voice inside of you
is so muffled, minimized or rejected
It will be a struggle to speak your truth
even if you become self-respected.
But if you stop and listen to yourself,
it will feel remarkable when you find,
That even after a lifetime of silence,
your inner voice is wise.

Sometimes the authentic parts of you
are so shrouded in shame, guilt or fear,
it will be impossible to see the truth
even if your own reflection is clear.
But if you show compassion for yourself,
you will feel a remarkable peace of mind.
Because even after years of neglect,
your true-self can still thrive.
