Ecce Homo — Original Painting by Antonio Ciseri

ECCE HOMO

In His ribs they thrust a spear
In His wounds they stirred and stirred
Yet I fail to lay my heart bare
To the one who shows me love so rare

Through His feet the nails pierced
For my deeds He faced death
Yet I live it up for my flesh
When for my sake
He wore a thorn filled mesh

He faced a lot of pain
So my salvation could be gained
Yet I continue to cause Him pain
For my soul I continuously stain
With sin, pride and things so vain.

Therefore I beseech You,
In humility I seek You
Grant me strength to continuously pursue
Death to my flesh and life in You
That my lust would be overcome and my pride too
For my soul in Your grace I renew.
