Often time I have seen people asking the question as to what will happen to the Indian IT industry after the latest bill about the drastic changes in the regulations of H1-B visa allotment was passed in the White House of the United States under the presidency of Donald Trump? Seeing this from a naïve perspective, anyone can make a wild guess that the future seems to be gloomy. But let’s not be hasty in drawing any inference and let’s try to rationalize the facts on hand.
The current IT industry which amounts to around 150 billion dollars given employment to million people of the country. The changes in the visa application for the US were followed by Australia and New Zealand as well, which were the second choice options for the Indian IT engineers. All these will hurt the sentiment of people both in India and abroad whose jitters are still felt in the Indian stock market. But these are just a minor change which will force many underperforming people out of the doors of the company. The real changes will be felt when the game changes like AI and automation will chip in after a few years. Some gate-keeper sort of jobs will be lost when these technologies will be intact.
So does this mark the inception of the end of the glorious two decades of IT industry of India? Well, the answer to this might be “YES” if the current business model is not changed on which these industries are working. The highest and the most lucrative job offers will be coming from the fields of Data mining, Artificial Intelligence, and automation. So currently there is a real need for these companies to sit back and re-consider their business model and train the incoming fresh talent to the pool with the latest technologies of data mining such as Hadoop and Big data analysis.
