It is spring here and has been for a while. One of the beauties of Haifa are all the flowers.
Things are opening up here. I’ve been to mass four whole times! (Three Sundays and the Feast of the Ascension!) My prayers are with all of you who are still waiting to go back.
Among the other things that have opened up are the beaches! So, my roommate and I went swimming in the Mediterranean for the first time since arriving in Israel. I have a massive sunburn to prove it.
The beach was not packed, but it was full of swimmers and sunbathers. Social distancing was not feasible…possible, maybe, if you didn’t try to get to the water or walk on the promenade. Nevertheless, the lifeguard station announced in Hebrew and English, “Remember: By government regulation, all visitors to public areas are required to wear a mask at all times and adhere to social distancing guidelines.” As far as I know, tourists are still not allowed to enter Israel, and mask regulations have not been enforced for the past few weeks. The absurdity of making this announcement in English to a beach full of swim suited Israelis was truly delightful.
That’s all for now.
Pax, dear Friends! Hopefully, we’re all almost through this thing.
