Treachery and Truth

Dear Friends,

Treachery and Truth by Katy Huth Jones is a fictional account of the life of Good King Wenceslas. Frankly, I didn’t like this book.

The narrator (Wenceslas’ servant) was annoying; he used lots of “I”s which is a kind of writing that gets old. Wenceslas’ himself was flat. You’ll get more character from Wenceslas in this version of the carol than I got in the entire book.

A redeeming point of this book were the interesting descriptions about the period and facts about St. Wenceslas’ life. For example, I didn’t realize that Wenceslas was only 20 years old when he was martyred; nor did I know that he was one of the first Christians in Bohemia.

But over all, I do not recommend this particular hagiography. There are better ones to read.

Pax!
