How tech friendly is your property? In today’s modern, tech-driven world, having a home that is tech friendly can be great for renters and landlords. Renters wants smarter home solution and landlords are expected to deliver. Here are five ways to make your rental property more tech friendly, and how it will be beneficial for both landlords and renters:

1. Smart lights

Smart lights placed in your rental home will save a lot of money on energy bills. Hue bulbs are a fun, energy efficient, and long-lasting bulb that are easy to use. They are LED lightbulbs that can have multiple color settings and last for 10+ years! They can be controlled with a smartphone app or smart switches that are easy to install. If your renters forget to turn their lights off on a trip, they can turn off their lights remotely while they’re away from home.

2. Smart thermostats

Smart Thermostats are a lifesaver for property managers or landlords. Energy saving thermostats, like the Nest Thermostat, will turn themselves down when you’re not home. Similar to the smart lights, you can also control it while you’re away, so if your tenants forget to turn down the heat, it’s something that can be easily fixed.

3. Exterior lights with motion sensor

Having exterior motion lights in the front and back of the rental property is one of the best ways to protect your property from any damage or theft. With these lights, it makes your renters feel safer at home and gives peace of mind to the landlord or property manager. It discourages anyone who may try to break in to the home from attempting to damage the property or steal anything. Something like the RAB Super Stealth 360 lights would be fantastic for full 360 degree coverage, motion detection, and full illumination of the exterior of your property.

4. Security cameras (including smart doorbells)

The main attraction for security cameras is safety and deterred crime. As a landlord it would be unethical (and probably illegal depending on where you live) to be able to access the camera feed, but with something like Ring security cameras and doorbells, it’s an added measure to secure your rental property. The Ring security system can be accessed remotely, will notify you if someone is at your doorbell, and have cameras for both interior and exterior.

5. Smart speakers

What started off as a seemingly fun novelty item has turned into a must-have for many rental properties. Smart speakers, like the Amazon Echo, easily connect to all of the above items (with the exception of the exterior motion lights) through just the power of your voice. It also is connected to the internet and the vast power of Amazon, so you can ask it questions, shop from it, and play music from it for a nice home ambience.
