“Smartphone users are showing an increasing appetite to use apps to add features to their phones”
In 2011 Apple’s App Store had more than 425,000 apps. The Android Market had 200,000. In May, Google announced its 4.5 billionth app download, compared with Apple’s 15 billion as of July 7.
82% of the apps in Apple’s store are free. The 18% that users have to pay for have an ASP of $1.44.
At least 2.2 million apps have been published so far including variants for different platforms.(source)
iOS users download about 4 apps every month
The data shows that there’s been a slight trend upward in download rate/user but it’s been fairly steady.
Analyst estimates for downloads of apps in 2013 range from 56 to 82 billion. In 2017, there could be 200 billion downloads.
Considering over two million apps have been published to mobile app stores, being one of those five downloads a month is increasingly hard.
