When you feel ready to start looking for a job, creating your Talent Profile on Frontend Mentor provides another channel for you to open up job opportunities. Our Hiring Platform allows recruiters to sign up, search for talent from within the Frontend Mentor community, and then make contact.

By creating a strong Talent Profile, you can increase your chances of being noticed and potentially land your dream job!

In this article, we’ll outline our recommendations to help you impress recruiters.

Upload a professional-looking avatar

A professional-looking avatar can make a world of difference in your profile’s first impression. We recommend ensuring your face is clearly visible and it’s not a long-distance shot. Think about the kind of avatar you would upload to LinkedIn. Steer clear of overly casual or inappropriate images, as they could deter potential employers. Don’t forget to smile!

Your Talent Profile avatar is separate from your existing avatar on the platform. This means you can have a more professional avatar that recruiters see while keeping your current identity on Frontend Mentor.

Add your full name

Your full name adds a personal touch and fosters trust with recruiters. It also allows them to search for you online, connecting the dots between your talent profile and other professional networks or sites you’re a part of.

Similarly to the avatar, your Talent Profile full name is separate from your name on the platform. So, if you prefer to keep your full name off Frontend Mentor, you can still add it for recruiters on the Hiring Platform.

Set your location to your nearest big city

If you live near a big city, set your location to that city. This will increase your chances of showing up in location-based searches by recruiters looking for local talent. Being associated with a major city can also provide additional networking and job opportunities.

Offer plenty of insights

The insights section is your chance to shine. Use it to help recruiters learn more about your achievements, work style, personality, and preferences. Thoughtful, well-crafted answers to each prompt will make you stand out from the crowd and help convey what you bring to the table.

We recommend adding as many insights as possible to help recruiters build a strong picture of who you are and how you might fit into their team.

When considering what to write to continue the prompts, use the helper text to guide your thoughts. Continue the prompt as if you were continuing the sentence. Take the following as an example:

❌ Bad

Prompt: I want to work in a company that…
Insight: I want to work in a compact that believes in making a positive impact, not just in business but in society. Companies with a clear purpose are incredibly appealing to me.

✅ Good

Prompt: I want to work in a company that…
Insight: Believes in making a positive impact, not just in business but in society. Companies with a clear purpose are incredibly appealing to me.

The prompt will be shown along with a pre-defined emoji and the insight when displayed on the Hiring Platform. So by continuing the sentence, you save characters and remove content duplication. Here’s a screenshot of how insights are displayed to recruiters on the Hiring Platform:

You must also set one insight as your “featured insight”. This should be the insight you feel is most important for recruiters to know about you. It will appear in the Talent Search results on your preview card and be featured at the top of your Talent Profile. Ensure that the insight you choose to feature is one you feel will grab the recruiter’s attention.

Here’s how the featured insight is displayed within the Talent Search results:

Detail your work experience

Include your work history, outlining the role and responsibilities for each position you’ve held. Detailing your responsibilities helps highlight relevant experience and demonstrates your expertise. This information will be invaluable for recruiters looking for candidates with specific skills or experience.

We recommend writing a short paragraph to provide more context about the company and the position before creating a bulleted list of 3–5 of your key responsibilities.

Showcase your education and certifications

Adding your highest level of education and any relevant courses, bootcamps, or certificates demonstrates your dedication to learning and growth in the field. Recruiters often value candidates who have invested in their education and continued professional development.

Feature your most impressive solutions

Your featured solutions should be the Frontend Mentor projects you’re most proud of and showcase your skills the best.

Ensure you add relevant tags to your solutions to help you appear in relevant skill-based searches on the Hiring Platform. For example, if you’ve used React.js in a project, include the #react tag. This will make your profile more searchable and help recruiters identify your areas of expertise.

You can feature up to six solutions on your Talent Profile — the more, the better! More featured projects lead to higher search rankings, increasing your visibility to recruiters.

Aim to include the projects you’ve completed that are the highest difficulty level as they further elevate your ranking because they showcase your ability to tackle more extensive, complex projects.

A diverse portfolio of projects highlights your adaptability and problem-solving prowess. Include projects that highlight different challenges rather than just layout and styling. Showing your ability to handle events, animation, API requests, and complex UI will help to impress recruiters.

Before featuring a solution, review and refine it as needed. Also, and this is an important one, make sure your solution links work! Go to the solution pages of your featured solutions and click the “preview site” and “view code” links to make sure the links are working. If a recruiter clicks a link to review your project or code and it leads to a 404 or broken site, it won’t leave a good impression. These projects are your chance to showcase your skills, so make them count!

Set realistic salary expectations

Provide yearly and hourly salary expectations you would be happy to receive. We provide pre-defined ranges to help you choose a range that suits you best based on your needs and expectations.

Choosing a range that you are comfortable with is essential, as this will help ensure your satisfaction in your next role. Research industry standards globally and in your location, and consider your experience level when setting your ranges.

We use USD for displaying salary ranges to make it easier for companies worldwide to compare expectations at a glance. If USD is not your primary currency, you can use xe.com to find the most appropriate ranges based on your local currency.

Remember, set yearly and hourly salary expectations you would be happy to receive. This will ensure your financial needs are met and help make the hiring process smoother for both parties.

Conclusion

By following these recommendations, you can create a strong Talent Profile on Frontend Mentor that will catch the attention of recruiters. Take the time to carefully craft your profile and showcase your skills, experience, and accomplishments to increase your chances of landing your ideal role.

We also recommend searching for job opportunities using traditional channels like job boards and LinkedIn. Setting up your Talent Profile on Frontend Mentor can open up new opportunities, but it is also no guarantee of employment. The good thing is that you can take the information you’ve added to your Talent Profile and use it to adjust your resume and help you apply for jobs through other channels!

If you have any questions about the Hiring Platform, feel free to ask them inside our Discord community or by emailing us.
