Hello! I hope you had a great month in June and are having an excellent start to July! We’ve had a very busy time (hence the late update this month! 😅). We’ve been working hard to get the Hiring Platform ready for its soft launch. I’m delighted to say that we managed to get it launched at the end of June, and we’ve now got our first companies signed up on the platform! 🎉

I’ll talk more about the Hiring Platform in a sec. Firstly, I want to welcome the 18,951 new members who registered on the site and the 7.5K+ people who joined our Slack community! 👋 I hope you all enjoy being part of the Frontend Mentor community and taking our challenges!

Features & Updates

This past month

  • Soft launch of the Hiring Platform — It was a great feeling to launch it to our waitlist of companies and see the first people sign up! We’ve worked on it for months and it’s been in my head for over a year. So it’s fantastic to have it out there. Here’s the URL if you’re interested in taking a look: https://hiring.frontendmentor.io/. We’re keeping it relatively quiet at the moment to get feedback from the first people from our waitlist who sign up looking to hire developers. Once we’ve got the initial feedback and we’re happy everything’s working as expected, we’ll start to get the word out to a broader audience!

The Hiring Platform took up the vast majority of our time throughout June. All the other tasks were very small fixes or recurring tasks. So, let’s get into what we’re working on this month…

This coming month

  • Push the Home/Dashboard merge through to production — I showed images of how this will look in last month’s update. We’re extremely close to launching these changes, which I think will make a huge improvement on the site.
  • Update header and footer — We’re making some changes to the header and the footer. The footer, especially, is getting a new look now that we’ve got more places to help people navigate.
  • Improve the UX around updating and deleting solutions — This change has been a long time coming. We’re making it easier to edit and delete your solutions by adding dropdown menus both on the solution show page and the preview cards on the my challenges page.
  • Post-launch fixes and refinements on the Hiring Platform — Once you launch a new platform, there is always some post-launch work to do as certain errors and bugs are reported. We use Sentry, which helps us detect bugs and act fast to make improvements. So we’re making time to ensure we’re fixing any issues as our first recruiters use the Hiring Platform.

Wall of Fame

Mentors of the Month

Wall of Fame top 3 for June

Congratulations to Ahmed Bayoumi for finishing in the top spot on the Wall of Fame for March! Also, a big congratulations to Vanza Setia and Kent O’Sullivan for finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. You’ve all got lovely shiny new Mentor of the Month badges on your profiles!

As always, a big thanks to everyone who gave feedback and support to other community members throughout the past month. Giving code reviews is not only a great help to other people and a brilliant way to meet other community members, but it’s also incredible for your own learning.

Reading other people’s code, analysing it, and giving constructive feedback will really help boost your skills and reinforce your knowledge. Giving code reviews is a crucial part of being a professional developer, so reviewing other people’s solutions is a perfect place to practise giving helpful feedback to others!

Also, with the Hiring Platform now live, it’s also worth noting that the code reviews you give to others on the platform will play a big part in where you appear on the developer search results. Your code reviews for other people will be an incredible way to display your knowledge. This will help hiring managers get a detailed insight into you as a developer by reviewing your solutions and reading your code reviews.

Airdrop Raffle winner

Congratulations to Hussein Haj Ghazal for winning our monthly Airdrop Raffle! Enjoy using your free premium challenge credit to take on one of our premium challenges!

Each week and month, we randomly pick someone to win a design credit (weekly) or a premium challenge credit (monthly). Every week or month you finish on the Wall of Fame, you’ll be in with a chance of winning! 🎉

Feedback and ideas welcome

If you’ve got any feedback or ideas for Frontend Mentor, please let me know. I love hearing how you’re using the platform. The best place to message me would be to DM in the Slack community.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your month! 🙂
