Since creating Frontend Mentor I’ve always wanted to provide the community with a realistic experience of being a professional front-end developer. Our challenges aim to mimic a real-world developer to designer handover process. Each challenge comes with a brief, optimized assets, a basic front-end style guide and JPG designs for mobile and desktop layouts. If you want to really focus on the detail you can buy the original Sketch file to use instead of the JPGs in the free download.

It’s been amazing to see people use the challenges to build their experience and practice different techniques to improve their workflow. Some have even managed to score interviews after adding Frontend Mentor projects to their portfolio:

Taking it to the next level

A key part of differentiating yourself from other developers in the job market is to build a strong portfolio of projects. By completing Frontend Mentor challenges you’ll be able to build a beautiful portfolio of projects to showcase your front-end skills.

With the launch of the first Premium Challenge, I’m aiming to add even more impressive portfolio pieces to the Frontend Mentor library. These challenges will be designed to be the most realistic front-end development experience outside of actually receiving a professional development contract.

Each Premium Challenge will include:

  • Designs for fully-functional, multi-page websites and web applications
  • The original Sketch file will be included in the download. Even if you don’t have Sketch on your computer you can use Figma to view the design file and see the details. Figma is a web application itself, so everyone with a browser can use it regardless of their operating system.
  • The designs include layouts for mobile, tablet, and desktop screens. They also include desktop designs for all active states like hover effects and input errors on forms.
  • A professional design system is also included so you can easily grab the right colors, fonts, etc for the project.

The first Premium Challenge

I’ve decided to go with a multi-page website for a fictional remote recruitment company called myteam which offers outsourced high-performing remote teams for digital companies.

The design is for a 3-page website which includes a Homepage, About page, and Contact page. You can see the preview for the desktop homepage at the top of this post. Below you can see some other design previews:

If you’d like to learn more about the challenge, please take a look at the challenge page on Frontend Mentor:

I look forward to seeing how people get on with the challenge and hearing any feedback about it! All suggestions for future challenges that you’d like to see are more than welcome too 🙂
