“The unique thing about electric mobility is that you don’t need to create demand for the service. There’s mobility everywhere. ‘All’ you need to do is substitute the internal combustion engine with the electric side.”
— Phil Mann, Senior Energy Advisor, FCDO

The Frontier Technologies Hub has been working with Powerhive in Kenya to explore how EVs can become a keystone of localised rural economic systems, and in turn make Mini-Grids viable businesses — providing rural populations currently off the grid with the benefits of reliably accessible, clean-sourced energy.

In this case study, we reflect on our pilot project from Kisii County, Kenya, as it approaches the conclusion of a two-year collaboration.
