The Frontier Tech Hub collaborated with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) to support Population Services Kenya and Novek to explore whether by introducing smart contraceptive vending machines in areas where adolescents’ needs are going unmet, then we may be able to create demand and meet unmet need among poor women and girls.

See the story of the pilot and our insights on smart contraceptive vending machines here.

“We had this idea around using vending machines to overcome the problem of getting family planning methods to adolescents and reaching the last mile. We sadly didn’t have the expertise, we’d never fully run technology experiments before and we didn’t have a budget so we parked the idea. It wasn’t until later that year we saw the FTL call that we saw an opportunity to try it out and since then we’re secured additional funding from CIFF”.

At the Frontier Technologies Hub, we work with UKAid to explore how emerging technologies can help to solve the variety of challenges found in developing country contexts. You can read more about the programme here.
