Last month the White House ran a frontier tech conference with everyone from Nasa to the team behind Space X, urban technologists and health researchers taking stage, all hosted by President Obama.
Our colleagues at UNICEF are running their Futures programme, which has already seen wearables and sensor technology become game-changers for women and children across the world.

It feels safe to say — with that brief touch on context — that there has never been a more exciting time to explore the potential for frontier tech.
And DFID is already contributing to some of the most life-changing and life-saving innovation in the world.

I believe this intersection is where our generation will do its most meaningful work. That’s why I feel truly privileged to be leading the team through this programme of work.
THREE YEARS OF EXPLORATION AND APPLICATION AHEAD
Over the next three years we’ll be exploring how frontier technologies like drones, the internet of things and collaborative economy can contribute to development challenges around connectivity, health, education and more.
Our first of three calls for submissions was launched last week. We’re asking DFID staff to submit their ideas of applying frontier technology to their programmes of work. We’re also inviting technologists, entrepreneurs and innovators to join us as we match make them with one another and work to move from paper to prototype to pilot together.
CREATING A LIVE STREAM OF LEARNING AND SHARING
We know the only way we can truly discover if an application is useful, is to work quickly from paper, to prototype to pilot, gathering real time data, moving on from those that don’t work and scaling the ones that do.
This channel is going to be the home of our live stream of content, where we’ll share our progress and lessons as we go. And we’re planning on going, fast.
