Zimbabwe has a national electrification rate of 40%. There is a huge divide between the relatively small urban population (80%) and the majority who are in rural areas where the rate is below 21%.

The ‘Solar Enabler’ offers lithium battery based solar power at half the cost of traditional Kilowatt scale solar projects and because its installation costs are far lower, more clinics can be included in the pilot. As a smart battery it collects a range of data to inform the intelligent design of the system.

This project will seek to address the lack of reliable electricity in rural health clinics. This would improve the effective and safe storage of medicines, ensure a consistent supply of clean water, allow for services to continue after dark, provide a source of energy to support ICT and electronic data collection.
