Joanna Bakas, one of the Managing Partners at Frontira, was currently invited to the tomorrowstories podcast, hosted by Lisi Prem, to talk about all things metaverse. Is it just a hype that is going to fade, or is it the beginning of something new that’s going to shake up our life beyond business?

The key is to leave advertising behind to rather focus on community building and engagement. What we can see is that brands are not solely using the platforms as tools to reach their initial goals, but they are experimenting with the capabilities. They try to understand the basis of the metaverse and thus evaluate what possibilities it holds for them.

Various brands, people, and even countries have stepped into the metaverse to mark their territory, starting from Coca-Cola through Snoop Dogg, and Barbados. Like the industries, the goals also differ: personal branding, community building, and education are all present in the metaverse.

We only know one thing, and that is we know nothing. The future of the metaverse is unpredictable; however, we can make guesses based on what we would like to see. Joanna mentions health and education as an aspect to be explored beyond gamification, which is the current focus. She believes that the example of the University of Australia is an important implication of the beneficial means the metaverse offers.

Despite several brands joining the metaverse, there is still plenty of room for newcomers. Joanna advises brands to get as much information as they can to stay on top of the topic and to be able to make a move. What are her sources? Besides covering the mentioned topics, you can also find this out in the podcast.
