Our hearts are heavy and we feel sick. For George Floyd. For Ahmaud Arbery. For Breonna Taylor. For so many others who have lost their lives. For their friends and family. For Black people who don’t feel safe in their homes and communities. For the reality of racism in America.

Our country has been plunged into a compounding crisis this week. Once again, we are witnessing our communities torn apart by the deadly toll of inequality and injustice. While there has been an incredible coming together of our communities, there has also been unfortunate destruction.

Frontline Foods was established to support communities in times of crisis. Our communities need us now and we are responding in the way we know best: by supporting and feeding those who are working to rebuild.

We support the rebuilders and the justice movement. We are now raising funds for impacted cities — at frontlinefoods.org/solidarity. With those funds, we are committing to the following:

  • We will distribute funds to local chapters experiencing the biggest impact and the most need.
  • When putting dollars back into the restaurant economy, we will prioritize partnering with Black-owned restaurants.
  • Meals will go to people who are supporting our communities and to those who have been impacted by these events.

To offer an example of how this looks in practice: Over the weekend, several of our chapters — including Twin Cities, Chicago, Los Angeles, among others — moved quickly to partner with local restaurants to provide meals and deliver groceries and supplies to impacted communities.

While no number of meals can bring back a life, and our action alone will not stem the generations-long plague of racism and inequality, supporting communities during crises and taking quick action are core to our existence. Communities are the fabric of our lives, and communities can only thrive with equally strong threads of diversity, inclusion, equal justice, respect and love. These commitments are our way of strengthening those threads.
