Picked up by Apple, the documentary film “Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives” premiered on Apple Music on 3rd October 2017. The film opened the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017. It features interviews and archival footage of artists whose careers were shaped by Clive Davis.

The documentary is based on Davis’ autobiography

Directed by Chris Perkel, “Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives” is based on Davis’ bestselling 2013 autobiography of a similar name. The film examines Davis’ life and career in great detail. Known as one of the most distinguished and influential figures in music, Clive Davis was a driving force when it came to revolutionizing the all-embracing music scene. According to Apple, the documentary film is more than a mere biography.

“It is a guided tour of cultural revolution from the 60s to the rise of hip-hop, led by a man who consistently caught the next wave before everyone else.”

Davis shaped the careers of famous artists

“Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives” captures interviews and archival footage of famous artists who were mentored by the music giant. Davis had a strong hand in the careers of Sly and the Family Stone, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, Patti Smith, The Kinks, Lou Reed, Dionne Warwick, Carly Simon and The Grateful Dead, to name only a few. However, this list does not do justice to the amazing range of performers that Davis discovered, mentored and supported during his own influential career.

At 85 years old, Davis is the chief creative officer of Sony Music and is revered as the don of the music industry. He’s won five Grammy awards and he is the recipient of the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Apple Music launches its third exclusive documentary film

Davis’ autobiography is the third exclusive documentary film launched by Apple Music, following Taylor Swift’s “The 1989 World Tour: Live” and “808: The Movie”. Swift’s film was premiered in December 2015 while “808: The Movie” debuted in December 2016. Apple Music acquired the rights to Clive Davis’ documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival and announced the acquisition just before the film’s premiere.

Apple Music is a global innovator in music

Apple Music is committed to innovation in the realm of music. Therefore, it is not surprising that the company would want to acquire the exclusive rights to the documentary. “Clive-Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives” will allow the company to address two of its major concerns — high-profile music streaming exclusives and original TV content to compete with Amazon and Netflix.

In an interview with the Deadline, Davis could not conceal his joy regarding his partnership with Apple. He seems pretty excited about it and considers it a milestone to have a film about his life premier at the Tribeca Film Festival.

“Apple is a global innovator that has revolutionized the distribution of music. It is an honour to share the music and unique stories that have shaped my careers with millions of Apple Music subscribers around the world”, Clive Davis said.
