Male wardrobe accessories add the finishing touch
The old saying that goes “you can tell a lot about a man from the state of his shoes” is more than just an ancient adage. Today, it is more likely that you really can tell a lot about someone from their wardrobe and style, especially when male accessories add more personality and uniqueness to an individual.
Use accessories to boost first impressions
According to experts, accessories can make the difference between just getting dressed, and being “dressed up”. By building yourself a foundation of good-quality suits, in a variety of stable colours, you can then expand on their innate versatility, and make them more individual by simply adding a few accessories.
Changing seasons without changing styles
President of E.R. Fisher, of Richmond Road, London, Sonia Fisher says that one of the great things about accessories for men is that you can take clothes that are normally seasonal and accessorize them to be used all year round. For example, for the summer, a nice dress shirt in bright colours can be accessorized with a brightly coloured tie to make them look very summery. In contrast, the use of darker accessories with an outfit made of heavier materials can easily fit the fall season.
Accessorize to go from office to party
Accessories can even take the look of a normal morning, and make it last into the evening by simply adding or changing what accessorizes the outfit. By having a good selection of accessories on hand, you can take the same suit from office to dinner-wear or from a wedding to a party, without the need to go home and change. Using great quality and good-looking accessories means you can spice up your wardrobe, and even grow its use, without actually spending a fortune on new clothes.
Fashion for men has not changed
Men’s fashion has actually changed very little in the past century, lapels got wider at one point, then narrowed again; collars have done the same, transitioning to wingtips and back; even pants and ties have slowly gotten wider, and then narrowed down again, as fashions change in other areas. Menswear is not really being “reinvented” at all in the modern fashion market, and it is more about the proper fit and great details than bold, outstanding designs where men are concerned. When you put two men in the same outfit, one often looks better than the other does, and this can usually be attributed to things like gold cufflinks, a nice tiepin, pocket squares, handkerchief use, etc. Similarly changing the normal tie for a bow tie is no longer considered a fringe accessory, although they are still outside mainstream.
Suits are normally boring
The basic suit, when looked at closely, is really boring, and adding a few accessories, whether it is a bow tie and suspenders or cufflinks and tiepin, can make all the difference in how you are perceived by other people. Simply experiment until you find your own individual style, and then build on it with the right accessories. While women’s fashion may be permanently in the limelight, men’s fashion is more complex and focuses more on body, fit, cut, fabric, and details.
