The British Fashion Council unveils 45 nominees for the 2017 edition of the Fashion Awards
The prestigious British Fashion Council awarding body has finally revealed the 45 top contenders vying for “The Fashion Awards 2017”. The list comprises break out stars, industry moguls, and some of the most noteworthy icons of the fashion scene. The chosen designers and brands are from the topmost pool of creative talents across the industry.
The Fashion Awards 2017 count 45 top-caliber nominees
The Fashion Awards was spearheaded way back in 1986, and have since risen to become one of the most renowned awards in Europe. The eventual victors of The Fashion Awards 2017 are scheduled to be announced at a grand gala ceremony held in London’s Royal Albert Hall. Expected to attend the occasion are 4,000 industry members who will conglomerate on the 4th of December of this year for the event. The organizing committee also plans to raise funds for future virtuosos so as to perpetuate an elite fashion legacy.
BFC Chair Natalie Massenet led a presentation along with BFC Chief Executive Caroline Rush, featuring Nadja Swarovski as their main sponsor. The breakfast press conference happened last October 23 at the Greek street Soho House in London, followed by a cocktail celebration later that evening.
Anderson takes four nominations again
There were 5 finalists in every category. Jonathan Anderson dominated with four nominations, just as last year. He represents the J.W. Anderson label for British Designer of the Year Menswear and British Designer of the Year Womenswear categories. Anderson won both of these awards last year. For the first time this year, he was nominated for the awards of Accessories Designer of the Year and Designer of the Year.
Jonathan Anderson will go head to head with Allesandro Michele of Gucci, Maria Grazia Chiuri from Dior, Phoebe Philo of Celine and Raf Simmons from Calvin Klein. They are locked in a quintet for The International Designer of the Year Award. On the other hand, the award of British Designer of the Year — Womenswear will see action from powerhouses Christopher Kane, Erdem Moralioglu of Erdem, Jonathan Anderson, Roksanda Ilincic and Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen.
In the Menswear Designer of the Year category, Christopher Bailey, Craig Green, Grace Wales Bonner, Martine Rose and Jonathan Anderson will have to fight for the title.
One of the model of the year nominees is Cindy Crawford’s daughter
Once again, Gigi Hadid, winner of Model of the Year in 2016, is back in action. She is joined by her younger sister Bella, Brit Adwoa Aboah, and Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford — the youngest amongst her “catwalking” colleagues.
The “business leader” award is also up for grabs
Another grand moment of the event will be the much sought-after title of “Business Leader” titans Adrian Joffe from Dover Street Market, Guram Gvasalia of Vetements, José Neves from Farfetch, Marco Bizzarri of Gucci, and Ruth & Tom Chapman from Matchesfashion.com will be fighting for the award. This prize is meant to recognize the work of fashion house CEO’s who have overseen both the creative and commercial success of their brand in the past year.
