The type of pages we’ve seen since nineties finally have a great name — Brutalist websites. The name comes from the term in architecture describing raw concrete buildings that expose their roughness. In web it's similar:

“In its ruggedness and lack of concern to look comfortable or easy, Brutalism can be seen as a reaction by a younger generation to the lightness, optimism, and frivolity of today’s webdesign.” — Pascall Deville, brutalistwebsites.com

Although some might argue it's the ugly side of the web, I see it as a design direction that celebrates the basic colors, effects and simplicity in general.
