Fresh faces in FT Technology — Our rotating graduate scheme

mortarboards

Over the past year we’ve been working hard to establish a graduate recruitment scheme for Technology. We’ve taken on grads in the past but in defined roles and wanted to focus on broadening our scope to help talented people get into technology and experience the range of disciplines across engineering.

Successful candidates join the team as a Graduate Engineer for their first 12 months. During the first 6 months, they’ll embark on a tour of duty performing different roles in different teams. They’ll spend 2 months in each discipline (Development, QA, Integration) during which time they’ll be expected to add value to the teams they’re working with. They’ll need support and help to learn new skills, which we’ll help them develop. During the second 6 month period, they’ll start to hone in on their chosen area of specialism. After which they’ll move into a junior position within that team. The experience of performing different roles will help to create a well rounded engineer who understands how their role and responsibilities fit into the team dynamic and how best to work with everyone.

We’ve been working with various universities around London and the south east to promote our scheme to their students and started accepting applications back in October 2015. Applications for the scheme closed in April and we started to review them and pick out our candidates.

Several interviews and an assessment day later, we had our two top candidates selected and offered them places to start with us in September. George Kastrinakis started Monday 5th September and Kamran Muniree joined us on Monday 19th September.

More information about the scheme can be found on our careers site and please share this with any grads/undergrads/technophiles you may know.
