Lesson 4: Create Showcase Pages — Remote Job Course
Showcase pages are portfolio pages that give you the opportunity to elaborate on your experience at a specific company. You can’t fit all of your accomplishments on your resume, nor should you try. These pages solve that problem.
You will link to your showcase pages below the accomplishments section for jobs featured on your resume. These pages will give hiring managers the opportunity to learn more about your accomplishments at a specific company.
Here’s an example of a showcase page.
How to create a showcase page
You want to create one showcase page for the last three positions you plan to add to your resume.
To create a showcase page, write down everything noteworthy you did for your last three jobs, internships, research projects, or similar types of experience. Write ten accomplishments for each job. Here’s what my brainstorm looked like for the job featured in the showcase page I linked to above:
- Grew blog traffic significantly
- Assisted the sales team on calls to sell to new clients
- Helped put together the company’s core values
- Got two posts to rank number 1 on Hacker News
- Created a content initiative that brought in a lot of new traffic
- Created content that was linked to by authoritative sites
- Created content that started relationships with authoritative companies
- Managed technical freelance writers and designers
- Created a viral article
- Started a successful newsletter
Note: Each of my accomplishments starts with an action word. This is important because it signifies that I actually did something. Avoid saying that you were something (i.e. a dedicated and hard-working employee). Anyone can say things like this, therefore they don’t mean anything.
Now try to make these accomplishments more interesting. Doing this will get hiring managers more excited about the prospect of contacting you for an interview. Here’s what my list looked like after doing this:
- Made blog readers 2.5 times more likely to become a lead or sale
- Assisted the sales team on calls that helped us acquire our largest customers
- Wrote the company’s core values that were turned into posters and shipped to teammates around the world
- Got two posts to rank number 1 on Hacker News, the industry’s largest discussion forum
- Created a content initiative doubled the company’s organic traffic in six months
- Created content that was linked to on Google’s developer site, one of the most authoritative sites in the industry
- Created content that started a relationship with Yahoo’s cloud team
- Managed a team of six technical freelance writers and designers to scale content initiatives
- Created article that led to 10K daily readers and 20+ same-day sales
- Started newsletter and grew to 11,000 opt-in subscribers
There’s a way to add color to any accomplishment, even if you don’t have quantitative data like me. You just need to get creative. For instance, if I was a waiter and worked with table seating software, I would name that software and say how many people I seated with it (e.g. 5,000 tables seated with Software X). If you don’t have access to actual numbers, you can estimate.
Action Step: Write down 10 accomplishments for your previous three positions in your journal. Then follow the step-by-step process in the video tutorial below to publish your Showcase pages.
Action Step (Optional): After creating your showcase pages, add links to them in the Reply section below.
