Bear | Voluminous | Blossom | Heavenly | Reawaken
500 words: On Bears
A rambling dissertation on the nature of bears.

The air is heavy with the voluminous morning mist, a serene blanket that hovers low over the earth, undisturbed by the gentle cool breeze of dawn. It’s a stillness that wraps around you, like waking up in a fallen tent. Everything is damp, but the closeness of the material provides a cocoon of tranquility.
Spring blossoms in fits in starts, a patch of green here, a flowering tree there. Progress is never a straight line. There are always drops. Jumps become more numerous as the sun lifts a touch higher and stays longer.
As the earth reawakens in the mists of a new day, the sparse bird song grows louder as the mist burns away. Nature can be noisy, but in a way that brings peace to the busy world. Along with waking birds, furry mammals stir and collect their food, eating some and storing some, but always moving — chittering warnings to their clan as the forest awakes and, with it, larger creatures.
