Today’s Prompt: You’re about to walk into an old library, and the person in front of you holds the door for you. You sense they want something more than a simple thank you.


I’d been coming to this old library for a while now. It was the smallest in the city library network and hadn’t been modernized like the rest. It was walking distance from downtown but outside of the modern lots that had been gentrified with new shops, eateries, and condominiums. It was on the wrong side of the tracks and looked tired.
I’m unsure what drew me to it; I must have been curious, but I’d discovered a trove of older books — the type of books most libraries don’t put on their shelves. The kind of books PTA moms protest and rail on social networks about. I love to read these kinds of books…
