A Gentle Reminder for FAM writers
On the controversy of the day.
Medium often adjusts its rules and how it compensates members who provide content under its Partner Program. This is all written down in the following articles:
A few things drew my eye because of some unfortunate events in the past few days. I’m not going to be pedantic and detail them line by line. I’m not entertained, nor do I enjoy the consequences of Medium’s actions, nor the peers who have been impacted.
The takeaway I’m getting is best summarized by:
- Platforms allow content creators to use platforms as long as they benefit from their content
- Platforms care about their bottom line and rarely the bottom line of the content creators.
That’s true of Amazon, Smashwords, OnlyFans, and Medium… I can go on and on and on. Platforms do not care about your audience, fans, or the people at your dinner table.
As a content creator on Medium and as a writer for this publication, it is incumbent on you to read, understand, and abide by the rules of Medium’s platform. Failure to do so will impact whether your stories will continue to be available on Fuck Around Microfiction.
As the content creator, your stories are your intellectual property (IP); you can pull down your articles published here just as easily as editors can remove your stories. You can pull them down, and publish them to another publication. That’s part of this business and within the rules.
I want all writers of Microfiction, Short Stories, Poetry, and Erotica to find readers and supporters of their craft. To the degree I can help within the above rules, I will gladly help and encourage your writing.
