BAD TIMING (3D) (SHORT), Gülsel Özkan 2013
3D short film deep enough to be seen several times
3D short film, far more conventional that NOT EYE though not a bit less interesting or inspiring to watch. The story blends paranoid dream of a caring mother as dark foreshadows with a reality which turns out to be as cruel as her dark dream.
We have a dream space, a real space and within this real space a third space connecting the other two spaces: a vanished hotel complex in the middle of nowhere deep in the German black forest. The way these spaces are filmed wonderfully shows how 3D can be used to create powerful vertical tensions along the z-axis into the depth of the screen, especially when it´s used with an infinite field of focus. Everything from the foreground to the background is sharp and put together with just the right pace and rhythm — not too fast for you to see what is going on where, not to slow too be boring. On the other hand the original sounds sounded strangely dull and flat, kind of weird in this combination, and the dialogues and adult actors performances — well, let´s not think about them in detail — because it still is a great 3d short film, rich enough to be seen several times.
