LOCAL HERO, Bill Forsyth 1983
some beautiful long shots of the Scotish seaside
Yesterday I tried to watch this film for the second time again I didn’t manage to see it until the end. It´s simply too slow and too redundant (= too life-like?). I turned it off after one an half hours when it already seemed like it had been running for at least three hours or so.
The story is simple: A rich American oil company sends an employee to Scotland to do business there. Then it´s as far as I understood all about how he makes friends, finds a girl, manages to convince the locals to trust him and his company and so on, told in the most unexciting, almost anti-dramatic manner, as if the storytellers didn´t care about the story they are telling themselves. I don´t know. Maybe I just didn´t get it because I´m too dumb or not curious enough anymore for this movie. Also there are some beautiful long shots of the Scotish seaside and an ironic little subplot about a first loved and then eaten rabbit called Trudy.
