Fucking vampire production killing great ideas
The “rest in piece department” catches escaped dead people destined to go to hell. Under the deadies´ human skin lays a more true fleshly representation of their self: monsters who look a bit like Shrek gone wild. Also the cops who are recruited after dead but before judgment day in a heavenly bureau complex have masks. Because it would violate cosmic´s balance if they would be recognized, they look like different people for others. This is the main idea and I love it for its fantasy and craziness.
But the story developed inside this idea as well as the characters are fucking the thing up completely. It´s nothing but a phony, distracted MEN IN BLACK-variation eagerly trying to be cool and catch laughs.
I´m not really sure how the managed to produce a film that flat even though it is in 3D. Maybe it´s the compositions, maybe the business-as-usual-acting of an actually pretty strong cast (Jeff „The Dude“ Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Ryan Reynolds), maybe the poor CGI, maybe the fast editing which annoys your eyes, maybe just because you feel that the main drive of the producers was to suck money out of a mash-up of already washed out ideas instead of feeling the need to tell the world a particular story. Fucking vampires. Too much effects killing ideas, even though some of them are quite fun and “well crafted”.
