TATANKA, Giuseppe Gagliardi 2011
Pseudo-authentical crap
TATANKA is kind of a sequel to GOMORRA. It was based on Roberto Saviano´s second book about the South Italian mafia. On the blu-ray cover it says in big letters that the film was inspired by a true story. Unfortunately it proof that this bonus of realism doesn´t alter the dramatic impact at all. Apart from a few strong scenes (boxing in a shopping mall, almost sex with ex-girlfriend in beach box, caged birds as a metaphor for a young couple) it was boring, predictable and pseudo-authentical. They try so hard to keep it real by the extensive use of handheld shots, low-key lighting, dialect speaking etc. that it stands out even more, that everybody but the main character who plays a fictionalized version of himself are actually actors acting poorly, embodying poorly written figures, speaking doll lines of poorly written dialogue. I turned it off after the first hour. I know that´s disrespectful and I know that I was tired last night anyway. So please consider this review as not fair at all.
