The people speaking truth to power today that move my liberation-loving soul are Black women who are following in a long line of “Sister Outsiders,” who have been fighting at the intersection of racism and sexism for centuries like Sojourner Truth.

Women like U.S. Representative Maxine Waters, who has told every man in Congress #ShutTheHellUp who dared an attempt to diminish her. She has been fearlessly calling for the Impeachment of 45 since Day 1, using the intelligence of Abigail in I Samuel 25:3.

Nabal and 45 have a LOT in common. Abigail and Maxine have the same goal: diminish the deathly harm these men are causing not only to these women but to all associated with them, meaning, our country. As 45 continue to taunt Kim Jong-un of N. Korea, Maxine keeps yelling to 45 to #ShutTheHellUp.

Senator Kamala Harris from California, who you might have witnessed telling Attorney-General Sessions to #ShutTheHellUp in Congressional hearings, is now going after the multi-billion dollar commercial bail industry that is one of the biggest profiteers of mass incarceration.

She has introduced a bill to create alternatives to money bail which disproportionately criminalizes the poor who have not been convicted of a crime but stay in debtors prisons, sometimes for years, because they can’t post bail. Black women are hit the hardest of the poor. Women like Tasha Jackson, an Organizing Director for the Texas Organizing Project; Gina Clayton and the Essie Justice Group organizes women with incarcerated loved ones for statewide reform of the bail and criminal justice system; and Mary Hooks of Southerners on New Ground who worked with the Color Of Change and many Black organizers around the country to bail Black mothers out of jail for Mother’s Day. These women dare to tell the commercial bail industry to #ShutTheHellUp.

Here’s my hero Sojourner Truth, telling everybody at the Ohio Women’s Rights Conference in 1851 to #ShutTheHellUp:

“Then that little man in black there, he says women can’t have as much rights as men, ’cause Christ wasn’t a woman! Where did your Christ come from? Where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with Him.

If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, these women together ought to be able to turn it back , and get it right side up again! And now they is asking to do it, the men better let them.”

It’s time for Black women to lead so #ShutTheHellUp and listen.
