Yatta!!!!
We finally did it. We finally have a User Experience designer
Its April 2018 and it’s been a turbulent past couple of weeks.
We have lost our UX designer who has been with us since we launched the Grate App, he was truly gifted in the art of user interface and we will miss him. For record purposes he has left the company
As the saying goes — “The only constant in life is change” and the Startup life goes on.
This reminds me of the angry birds story(I mention this story allot and im sure the team and everyone i know is tired of it)
The craving to make - That one last game, that one last update, that one last feature that could change everything.
This was it. We needed a UX designer otherwise we would not launch at the end of April.
Off i went on the recruitment drive.
We had two options : Contract or Offer Equity
1-Contract someone and pay them to develop the User Interfaces and User experience, We already had wire-frames, user stories and some mock-ups so we can get and pay someone just to finish off.
2-Offer equity to a visionary User Experience and Interface designer who define, research and craft such a beautiful app that Netflix designers would cry
Forward I went on angellist and put up a job post
I was looking for someone who had mad skills and vision and has crafted some beautiful apps and wants to be apart of something remarkable
The job post was active for a week and there were no applicants so i decided that if the talent cant come to me then i will go to the talent
So i searched South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Netherlands, India and San Francisco for a UX/UI designer
The first thing i looked at was the designers website, behance or dribble profile, they they didn’t have any of these then i swiftly skipped past them.
I had conversations with a couple of designers like Marli and Lovely from SA, XU from San Francisco and George from Kenya
The curious case of George
I had a look at many profiles and George’s profile stood out, his use of colors and imagery was splendid and most importantly his App’s looked scalable.
I got on a Hangouts call with George and after an intro about the company he asked me two key questions that stood out
Questions
1-What do you expect from me?
2-Can i trust you?
Both of these questions align to what we want to achieve at Fudos, we need to get the product out to market in the quickest time possible with everyone knowing exactly what they need to do with full trust in each others ability.
There was one question i asked him and his response really stood out
Question — What makes good user experience, Answer — “Dont make me think”
Good user experience must be intuitive. It must be natural and something that takes effort.
Thank answer alone earned him a seat on this Fudos roller-coaster so welcome aboard George
