3 Outdated Photography Tips You Can Now Ignore

Some advice doesn’t age well.

Ever heard this? … “Don’t take any wooden nickels!

Nobody even carries coins around anymore, let alone wooden ones. (And if you’re too young to even know what that expression means, here’s an explanation.)

Photography advice is no different.

Most of it is timeless, and applies regardless of what equipment you’re using or what you’re shooting.

But some photography tips that were previously considered universal and absolute are, in this day and age, not really applicable anymore. At least not to everyone, the way they used to be.

I’ll give you three examples…

Use the Rule of Thirds

Ah, yes, the classic “rule of thirds”. Most photography newbies hear about this rule of thumb about 5 minutes after getting into the hobby.
