40-Attached- Like the book, or not.

A wavy top turban snail has picked up over a dozen hitchhikers — barnacles that seem to have grown attached to their host.

These gastropods “graze” on kelp, which grows in large underwater forests just offshore at the Silver Strand State Beach, Coronado, CA.

So named because their spiral shells resemble a turban, these snails are an important part of the coastal ecosystem in Southern and Baja California.
