April = 4
April has always been one of my favorite months. The trees begin sprouting their tender, chartruse-colored leaves, the sight of which usually energizes me. Instead, I exited the month feeling more exhausted than peppy.

I’m in the throes of a job search, and at the moment, the process resembles my fleeting attempts at online dating. Similar to that foray, I created a resume highlighting my winning qualities and applied to interesting positions where my skillset looks like a great match. So far, I’ve either received rejections or been ghosted.

And just like online dating, I have no idea why. I’ve developed a thicker skin for this kinda stuff, and I never take the rejections personally. If I don’t land a particular job, I firmly believe a better one awaits me. Still, the whole process gobbles up my time, draining my energy and my creativity tank. My writing has stalled and suffered.

To refill my tank and get my creativity river flowing again, I took part in a writing workshop last weekend and bought a book of poetry to change up my usual reading material. This prompted me to attend a poetry reading that included an interview between the author and his publisher.
