Sailing on my journey through retirement, I find monthly photography challenges good for the soul. They force my photographer’s eye to merge with the writer’s pen. The two endeavors intertwined within the jumble of neurons called my brain to produce interpretations of the world around me.

This time, those neurons selected a range of photos resulting in an eclectic grouping of architectural, astronomical and sports subjects, representing my attempt to expand my photographic skills.

I examine the human spirit, capture the natural wonders of the night sky, and record the architecture in northern Poland.

It’s making for a fun trip.

Main Street

The traditional notion of a Main Street does not fit the Polish city. In America, the concept of a principal street, where functions and social affairs meet, was driven by the ubiquitous automobile. In Poland, the common meeting ground for urban and rural dwellers is the town square.

I suspect the difference reflects the age of most European towns. Fortified positions, found along trade routes, formed during the Middle Ages. Roads led to a central location, which became the point of trade and commerce. Cars didn’t exist…
