Hello From…

Photograph By The Author

We spent several days south and west of Marrakesh in the coastal village of Essaouira. The street scenes, within the alleyways and the markets, capture the essence, vibrancy, motion, and emotion of this beautiful city. At every alley, crossing another alley would be another scene, rich with ancient architecture with arches, filigree, and carvings. Essaouira is an exciting city, visually complex, and imaging scenes of commerce, family life, and social interactions that I’m sure would be similar to the city centuries ago.

We were walking down a small street on our way back to the car after looking around in Monchique, Portugal. It was quiet and hot. Much to my surprise, a door opened and this little old lady shuffled out. I think she was as surprised to see me as I was her. She put her hand up as I crudely pointed at my phone, my camera, asking I thought if I could take her picture. I didn’t know if she was putting her hand up to indicate OK, or to cover her face, or waving to me. I had to think it was the former. She was smiling. I took the picture. Old.

I See Red

Photograph By The Author

As morning light

pierces the mist,

In a forest of oak.

Amid the haze of fog’s gentle tease,

a tapestry of leaves,

crimson and soaked.

The forest comes alive

The air, crisp and cool

A hint of dew.

New To Me

Watching the process of building a rental property in Luz Portugal is a wow experience, and this is new to me.

A new and modern duplex is being built across from the apartment that we rent in a building on a small, one-way alley in Luz. The main houses of the duplex are finished. The exterior sitting, sunning, swimming, and parking areas are in full construction mode. A bonus for me. I find the process of construction and geometry appealing. The noise was minimal. The walls within the area are white. In a 30-minute period, the tonal value of any wall could move from zone 3 to zone 6, or vice-versa, as the earth spins on its axis and shapes the lightscape of the structures. Wow!!
