As I created the cover image for this month, I realized how fitting it is. I took this shot of the number tacked next to the door of the apartment I moved into after I left my marriage.
The decision to leave was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, and I arrived at that apartment mentally and emotionally exhausted. The small space cocooned me at a time when work and discerning my future consumed most of my days.
I’m in a similar spot in life now, as I feel a strong push to leave my current job and find a different place for myself. My after-work hours are filled with networking, scouring the internet for open positions, and constant resume revisions to align my skill set with each new job description. Once again, exhaustion has set in, leaving me with little energy.
The number 3 reminds me of the need to find a better balance in my life. Spending all my waking hours on the two things that deplete my energy — work and my job search — must be balanced by carving out space for creativity — an activity that fuels me.
As the saying goes — All work and no play may make Jack a dull boy. It also makes for a pretty dreary life.
